Hobonichi started as a lifestyle website “Hobo Nikkan Itoi Shinbun,” [Almost Daily Itoi Newspaper] in 1998 featuring “almost-daily” essays by founder and editor-in-chief, Shigesato Itoi, who is well known for other ventures including game design and songwriting. In 2001, the Hobonichi Techo [planner] was launched after positive response from readers when asked if they would purchase a techo by the brand if developed. Since then, the Hobonichi lineup has grown from 1 to 7 types, with some being available in Japanese, English, and Chinese, and has sold over 10 million copies over the world.

A design by embroidery artist and illustrator iyo okumi. Included are a machine embroidered linen cover, made using one of okumi’s embroidery designs, as well as pencil board. If you close the lid of the box, it is designed to look like a book. The spine is also decorated with animals in gold foil.
