Sailor was established in 1911 by Kyugoro Sakata, becoming Japan’s first fountain pen company. Since then Sailor has achieved many firsts within Japan and the world such as developing the first Japanese ballpoint pen in 1948 and coining the word “cartridge.” They have also received the honor of being visited by Imperial Prince Hirohito in 1926. The Sailor Iriomote Cat F3 design centers around the critically endangered Iriomote cat—a rare wildcat found only on Okinawa’s subtropical Iriomote Island, where fewer than 100 individuals remain in the wild. Rendered in a rich, warm, earthy chocolate-brown resin, the cap features subtle, dark spot patterning that evokes the cat's natural camouflage. As you turn the barrel, a delightful two-sided illustration unfolds: on one side, you are greeted by the charming face of an Iriomote cat looking forward with wide, curious eyes and playful striped markings; rotate the pen to the other side, and you'll see the mother cat from behind with a sweet little kitten peeking right out from behind her back!
Illustrated in warm tawny-tan hues with bold leopard-like spots, the artwork on the Sailor Iriomote Cat F3 is paired with elegant gold-plated accents and a gold plated Sailor F3 stainless steel nib hand-finished by skilled Sailor artisans.
