Hobonichi started as a lifestyle website “Hobo Nikkan Itoi Shinbun,” [Almost Daily Itoi Newspaper] in 1998 featuring “almost-daily” essays by founder and editor-in-chief, Shigesato Itoi, who is well known for other ventures including game design and songwriting. In 2001, the Hobonichi Techo [planner] was launched after positive response from readers when asked if they would purchase a techo by the brand if developed. Since then, the Hobonichi lineup has grown from 1 to 7 types, with some being available in Japanese, English, and Chinese, and has sold over 10 million copies over the world.

 

For 2026, the A6 Cover will not be sold separately. It will be bundled with the 2026 Hobonichi Techo A6 English Original Book.

A cover inspired by Virginia Lee Burton’s famous picture book "The Little House". Both the front of the cover and the spine have a design based on the clear, sky blue used in the original picture book cover. The cover interior is a mint green, and the pocket on the right side depicts a summer scene of trees and crops growing in abundance.
